NBS AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO BUILD A WELL COORDINATED STATISTICAL DATA SYSTEM
Statistics General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics ( NBS), Prince Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran has affirmed commitment to advancing the field of statistics, and building a well-coordinated and resourced statistical system for the greater good of the Country especially in Data collection and dissemination.
In his keynote address
at the second Bi-Annual Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics (NCCS) holding in Ibadan, Oyo State says the journey towards making data more accessible at the sub-national level begins with a robust and inclusive data collection process.
With the Theme :Data Accessibility and Dissemination at the Sub-national Level, the NBS Boss acknowledged that it is both timely and crucial to navigating the complexities of a rapidly evolving world, and that the need for accurate, timely, and accessible data has never been more pronounced.
He explained that as custodians of Data in Nigeria, the Bureau would ensure that data is not only collected and analyzed but also disseminated effectively to empower decision-makers at all levels of government.
While recognizing the sensitivities surrounding certain types of information, he reiterated the need to strive towards creating a culture of openness and cooperation among data producers and suppliers,he said
fostering strong partnerships and adopting standardized protocols for data exchange can facilitate seamless collaboration and enhance the overall quality of statistical outputs.
He further highlighted three key pillars that can guide in the initiative to include:
Strengthening Collaborations for Comprehensive Data Production,Empowering Local Expertise through Capacity Building, and Innovative Approaches to Data Accessibility.
He stressed that fostering an environment where ideas can flourish, and partnerships can be strengthen a united front, usher in a new era of data accessibility, accountability, and progress for the Nation.
According to him, the task before the NBS is not only about transforming the landscape of statistical practice in Nigeria, but also about contributing to the development and well-being of all communities through the practice of the profession.
