INEC MOVES TO DIGITIZE POLITICAL PARTY REGISTRATION AS APPLICATIONS HIT 129.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received a total of 129 applications from associations seeking registration as political parties.

The update was disclosed following the Commission’s weekly meeting held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, where it reviewed recent submissions, including seven new applications received within the past week.

In a move to enhance transparency and efficiency, INEC announced the introduction of a digital platform for political party registration. The new system embedded in the Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS)—will replace the manual application process previously used.

According to National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, final testing of the registration portal is expected to be completed within a week, after which eligible associations will be invited to formally submit their applications.

He noted that detailed guidelines for using the PFRAS module will be issued to assist applicants in navigating the new system.

In the meantime, INEC has uploaded the list of new associations seeking registration to its official website and social media platforms for public information.
