REPS COMMITTEE CHAIR CALLS FOR NATIONAL RECOMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has called on Nigerians at all levels to recommit to accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to public service regulations.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance in Abuja, Hon. Salam said tackling corruption and weak governance structures requires collective effort not just government action.

He described the conference discussions as timely and critical for enhancing public finance management and restoring public trust. He also hinted at the possibility of making the conference an annual event, pending a joint decision by both chambers of the National Assembly.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Ahmed Wadada, urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and regional biases in national affairs.

Sen. Wadada stressed that reforming public governance is a shared responsibility and warned that Nigeria’s potential would remain underutilized unless divisive sentiments are abandoned.

He therefore, called on participants to thoroughly study the conference’s policy papers and recommendations to make informed contributions to Nigeria’s governance discourse.
