BOAT MISHAP / NIGER ATTACK: REPS LEADERSHIP MOURNS YOBE BOAT TRAGEDY, NIGER ATTACK

 

The leadership of the House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow over the boat mishap in Yobe State and a deadly attack in Niger State, which claimed several lives.

Both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker have called for stronger safety regulations and improved security measures to prevent a recurrence.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas , has mourned the victims of a boat mishap in Yobe State that claimed the lives of 29 people and left several others injured.

In a condolence message, the Speaker described the incident, which occurred in Garbi town of Nguru Local Government Area, as tragic and painful.

He extended condolences to the government and people of Yobe State and called for stricter safety regulations across all modes of transportation.

The Speaker prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, quick recovery for the injured, and strength for the bereaved families, while assuring that the House stands in solidarity with the state.

Similarly, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, expressed sadness over both the boat mishap in Yobe State and a recent deadly attack in Niger State.

Kalu condemned the attack on innocent citizens in Niger State and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

He called for improved intelligence gathering, community engagement, and coordinated security operations to prevent future attacks.

The Deputy Speaker also described the Yobe boat mishap as heartbreaking and urged relevant authorities to investigate the cause and strengthen water transportation safety nationwide.

Both presiding officers reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to supporting measures aimed at protecting lives and preventing avoidable tragedies across the country.

The House leadership says it will continue to support legislative and oversight actions focused on improving security and public safety nationwide.
