FG RESTORES CRITICAL ROAD LINKS, TACKLES FLOODING IN BAUCHI

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to restore critical road links and address flooding challenges in Bauchi State.
This formed part of the North-East National Media Tour and commissioning of emergency intervention projects by the Federal Ministry of Works.
One of the major projects inspected is the rehabilitation of the 35-kilometre Bauchi–Gombe Road — a key corridor linking Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba States.
The project, awarded in 2024 to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited at a cost of nearly 40 billion naira, is aimed at restoring a major transport route that had recorded frequent accidents and long travel delays.
Officials say ongoing work has already led to a reduction in crashes, while full completion is expected to significantly improve safety, reduce travel time and boost economic activities across the North-East.
The team also commissioned two emergency intervention projects along the Bauchi–Darazo–Kari–Potiskum Road.
These include the repair of a collapsed three-cell culvert at Konkiyel Town and another damaged two-cell culvert and drainage system at Sauke Village.
Authorities say the interventions are designed to permanently address recurring flooding, protect farmlands and communities, and safeguard federal road infrastructure.
Representing the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, officials described the projects as critical to preventing further flood damage and improving the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
Providing technical details, the Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi, Engineer Bashiru Adamu, explained that the projects form part of the Federal Government’s 260 emergency infrastructure interventions nationwide.
He noted that the culverts and drainage structures are essential hydraulic systems meant to protect roads, farmlands and surrounding communities, especially amid increasing climate challenges.
Engineering bodies, including COREN and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, commended the quality of work and stressed the importance of sustained professional oversight.
The contractor handling the Bauchi–Gombe Road project assured that drainage construction, binder course laying and asphalt surfacing are progressing as scheduled, with completion expected within the year.
Community leaders in Sauke Village expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, noting that the intervention has ended years of annual flooding and improved access for residents.
The Federal Government says the projects underscore its commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and supporting economic growth across the region.
