The newly appointed Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO) has expressed profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Honourable Minister of innovation science and technology and the relevant authorities for the confidence reposed in him for his appointment.
A Member of the National Institute (mni), Hon. Magaji noted with delight that he accepts the responsibility with a strong sense of duty, humility, and commitment to service.
I would also like to sincerely appreciate the Governing Board for its guidance and oversight, and to thank all stakeholders whose support continues to strengthen this institution.
As a Technocrat who believes in government as a continuum, properly paid tribute to his predecessors and the past leadership of this Complex, acknowledged their efforts, sacrifices, and contributions that have been made to sustain and advance this institution.
Addressing Members of staff on assumption of duty, Hon. Magaji Aliyu highlighted that the Complex occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s national development architecture as “Science, technology, and innovation are no longer optional drivers of progress; they are essential tools for economic diversification, industrial growth, job creation, national security, and sustainable development” he emphasized.
The two times federal lawmaker further enjoined staffers to note that “Our mandate places us at the heart of research, innovation, capacity building, and the translation of scientific knowledge into practical solutions that improve the lives of Nigerians. This responsibility demands excellence, integrity, collaboration, and forward thinking”
A Mechanical Engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Hon. Magaji also pinpointed that as he
assumes office, his vision is clear: to reposition the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO) as a dynamic, results-oriented, and globally relevant institution that delivers measurable impact for national development.
To achieve the above vision, he pledged that administration of the Complex will focus on the following strategic priorities:
- Strengthening Research and Innovation
We will promote demand-driven research that addresses Nigeria’s pressing challenges in areas such as agriculture, health, energy, environment, manufacturing, and digital technology. Emphasis will be placed on innovation that can be commercialized and scaled for national benefit.
- Human Capital Development
Our greatest asset is our people. We will invest in continuous capacity building, skills development, and knowledge exchange for staff, researchers, and young innovators. Merit, professionalism, and teamwork will be encouraged and rewarded.
iii. Partnerships and Collaboration
No institution succeeds in isolation. We will strengthen partnerships with universities, research institutes, the private sector, international organizations, and development partners to leverage resources, share knowledge, and accelerate impact.
- Good Governance and Accountability
Transparency, financial discipline, and ethical leadership will be the hallmarks of my administration. We will ensure prudent use of public resources, adherence to due process, and clear performance monitoring systems.
- Infrastructure and Institutional Efficiency
We will work towards improving our research facilities, laboratories, and operational systems, while embracing digital transformation to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Hon. Magaji Aliyu categorically enjoined the management and staff of Complex, to work together as partners in progress as he is committed to an open-door leadership style anchored on mutual respect, dialogue, and shared responsibility. I urge every one of us to renew our dedication to duty, embrace innovation, and uphold the values of excellence and patriotism.
“Change may not always be easy, but it is necessary. Together, with unity of purpose and collective commitment, we can overcome challenges and elevate this institution to greater heights” he remarked.
A Sustainable Development expert, Hon. Magaji Aliyu stated emphatically that history will judge us not by our intentions, but by our results. As I formally take over the mantle of leadership today, I pledge to serve with integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of science and technology for the benefit of Nigeria.
Hon. Engr. Dr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, a two-term Member of the House of the House of Representatives and renowned Chairman of the House Committee on Power, therefore called on all stakeholders for their cooperation, support, and constructive engagement as we embark on this journey together.
In his handing over address, the Overseeing Director of SHESTCO, Dr. Abayomi Orishadipe, noted with delight that what he has achieved together with management and staffers within the very short period was geared towards driving innovation, advancing science and technology, and contributing to Nigeria’s growth adding that he has full confidence in the new Director General to lead SHESTCO to greater heights. I’m grateful for the team’s dedication and look forward to seeing SHESTCO continue to excel under new leadership.
