The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has inaugurated the Implementation Technical Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and the National Agro-Allied Commodities Cooperatives of Nigeria, NACCON.
The move is aimed at boosting the nation’s agricultural value chain, strengthening corporate interactions, driving economic growth, and creating more job opportunities for Nigerian farmers.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, the Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, said the Federal Government will provide a conducive environment for agribusiness MSMEs to thrive in production, processing, packaging, marketing, and distribution across the agriculture ecosystem.
Senator Kyari emphasized that the Ministry remains committed to improving agricultural value chains, unlocking opportunities where Nigeria has comparative advantage, and supporting rural infrastructure for increased food production.
The Minister noted that the efforts will boost farmers’ income, expand trade and investment opportunities locally and internationally, increase foreign exchange earnings, create jobs, and reduce poverty.
He described micro, small, and medium producers as the economic pivots of any nation, stressing that without their contribution, there would be no agribusiness to showcase.
Responding on behalf of members, Julius Akam pledged that the committee will work diligently with stakeholders to deliver on its national assignment..
