The Defence Headquarters has confirmed an ordnance explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, facility in Kaduna, which claimed one life and left several others injured.
In a statement signed by the Director Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau reveals that, The incident occurred on the morning of September 20th, during the destruction of expired explosive materials such as Ammonia Nitrate, Primer Caps, Propellants, and other hazardous substances.
The Defence Headquarters says the injured personnel are currently receiving medical treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a quick recovery.
Officials insist that the situation is under control and pose no threat to the surrounding community. They also assured that DICON maintains strict safety standards, while a full investigation is underway to prevent a recurrence.
The Defence Headquarters says it remains committed to safeguarding personnel and the public, even as investigations into the cause of the explosion continue.
