Friday, 19 December 2025: The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has unsealed the headquarters of Ikeja Electric Plc after the company submitted a binding undertaking to comply with remedial actions over consumer rights violations.
The facility was sealed on December 11, 2025, following Ikeja Electric’s failure to obey a directive by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to unbundle a Maximum Demand account into 20 individual accounts for a customer who had been without electricity for over two and a half years.
Under the undertaking, Ikeja Electric is required to resolve all consumer complaints referred by the FCCPC within agreed timelines. Any breach will attract renewed and escalated enforcement actions under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act.
The FCCPC said the action underscores its commitment to enforcing consumer protection laws while adopting a balanced regulatory approach that de-escalates enforcement once credible and enforceable compliance is secured.
