The Federal Capital Territory Administration has approved the promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across various departments. This follows the release of the results of the first-ever Computer-Based Promotion Examination conducted in Abuja.
A statement on Tuesday, by, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social to the FCT Minister Lere Olayinka reveals that, the promotion exercise, approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, marks a major step towards clearing the backlog of promotion arrears between 2023 and 2025 for staff on grade level 16.
According to the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, the exercise will fill 49 out of the 63 existing vacancies across different cadres.
Breakdown of the results shows that the Education Officer Cadre recorded the highest number of promotions with 20 slots, followed by the Accountant Cadre with nine. Other positions filled include Civil Engineers, Social Welfare Officers, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers, with one vacancy each.
The FCTA explained that to ensure transparency, the Minister directed that the promotion be conducted using the Computer-Based Test model. A minimum score of 60 percent was set as the pass mark, while the new system has also reduced delays in releasing results.
With the approval, the Administration says it is reinforcing merit-based progression in the civil service, while promoting efficiency, accountability, and fairness in its workforce.
