FOOD PRODUCTION DRIVE : JANGWA RICE FARM LEADS FEDERAL PUSH FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

The Federal Government is stepping up efforts to make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production, beginning with one of the nation’s largest rice farms.
Over the weekend, Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, toured the 1,300-hectare Jangwa Rice Farm in Awe, Nasarawa State.
The flagship project, which engages hundreds of youths and women in commercial rice farming, is split into three blocks and sources premium Faro 45 and Faro 61 seeds from Olam—making it a vital link in Nigeria’s rice value chain.

Kyari reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to bridging the nation’s food demand gap, strengthening collaboration with state governments and private investors, and reducing rice imports.
He pledged sustained federal support and promised to return after harvest to assess results.

“We are determined to make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice production and secure our food future.”

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule added that the project is not only boosting food output but also creating jobs and reducing crime, reaffirming the state’s position as a top producer of rice and sesame.
