Nigeria has secured a major boost on the global agricultural stage as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has been appointed Chairman of the 49th Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD.
Senator Kyari was elected at the ongoing 49th Session of the IFAD Governing Council meeting in Rome, Italy.
In his acceptance speech, the Minister pledged to lead an impartial, inclusive and strategically focused council, committed to fostering consensus, deepening multilateral cooperation and strengthening the credibility of the institution.
He described the appointment as a solemn responsibility to millions of rural farmers across the world whose livelihoods depend on IFAD’s decisions, assuring that his leadership would remain impact-driven and people-focused.
Senator Kyari reaffirmed his commitment to IFAD’s mandate of delivering measurable outcomes for smallholder farmers, rural women, youth and vulnerable communities across continents.
