INSURANCE LITERACY DRIVE: NAICOM, SDGs SYNERGY INITIATIVE MOVE TO PROMOTE INSURANCE LITERACY.

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Synergy Initiative are set to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening youth participation in sustainable development while promoting public awareness of insurance as a tool for resilience and protection.

During a courtesy visit to NAICOM headquarters, the Executive Director of the Initiative, Usman Alhaji Lawan, presented a proposal for the Commission’s support in an upcoming youth summit.

The summit, being organized in partnership with the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), seeks to mobilize Nigerian youths in advancing the SDGs and highlight their role in sustainable national growth.

Lawan underscored the need to sensitize young Nigerians on the importance of insurance, noting that plans were also underway to foster collaborations between Nigerian youths and the Brazilian Embassy on SDG-related projects.

Welcoming the delegation, NAICOM’s Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Finance and Administration, Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, commended the Initiative’s efforts and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to youth-focused outreach. He pointed out that NAICOM is already working with the Federal Ministry of Youth to train one million young people in insurance literacy and capacity building.

With the renewed partnership, stakeholders say the initiative will not only boost insurance literacy among young Nigerians but also strengthen their role as key drivers in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
