PARA-OLYMPIC COMMITTEE OPENS CAMP AHEAD OF MAJOR INTERNATIONAL EVENTS.

In a renewed push to ensure Nigeria’s dominance in para sports, the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria has opened a national training camp in Lagos, as the country intensifies preparations for a string of major international championships.

The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, with full backing from the National Sports Commission, has officially commenced camping for para athletes in Lagos.

According to the President of the Committee, Sunday Odebode, the camp is a critical step in Nigeria’s preparations for a busy international calendar. Competitions in sight include the World Para Championships in Santiago, Chile, the Para Athletics Grand Prix in India, as well as qualification tournaments in para table tennis, wheelchair basketball, and para swimming.

Odebode expressed deep appreciation to the National Sports Commission, crediting the proactive leadership of NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, for their unwavering support.

The PCN President Sunday Odebode also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting sports administration to what he described as “true technocrats,” noting that such decisions are already yielding results in para sports development.

He added that the early start to camping is a major morale boost for the athletes, who are more determined than ever to excel on the global stage with sights firmly set on the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
