WIDOW USING FAKE PREGNANCY TO TRAFFIC COCAINE ARRESTED BY NDLEA IN LAGOS.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine while disguising with a fake pregnancy.
Ezewuike, a mother of one and proprietress of Golden Star Creation, was apprehended on Friday, 22 August 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos, while trying to move the drug to customers in Abuja. A follow-up search of her residence in Ago Palace, Okota, led to the recovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent. She claimed she inherited the illicit trade from her late husband, while maintaining she had been in the fashion business for two decades.
In related operations, NDLEA intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud” cannabis weighing 48.6kg at a courier company in Lagos. The drug, concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks, had been imported from the United States.
In Adamawa, a raid on the residence of notorious dealer Idris Garba forced him to flee, but his associate, Boniface Nnaji, 55, was arrested. A Toyota Thundra and Toyota Yaris were recovered along with 354,480 pills of tramadol. Similarly, in Kogi State, 5,000 capsules of tramadol and injectable opioids were seized from a suspect, Neche Okonkwo, who ferried them across the River Niger into Lokoja.
In Kano, NDLEA operatives arrested two suspects with 5,850 pregabalin capsules and recovered 452,070 opioid pills from a fleeing suspect’s residence. Other seizures included 140 litres of codeine syrup and thousands of tramadol capsules from traffickers along the Zaria-Kano road.
In Kwara, three operations netted over 2.2 tonnes of skunk concealed in trucks, while in Ekiti, 96kg of the same substance was seized. Across Taraba, Edo, Delta, and Ondo States, NDLEA, with support from security agencies, destroyed over 75,000kg of cannabis farms and warehouses in large-scale eradication exercises.
Two dispatch riders were also arrested in Abuja while distributing drugs in the Federal Capital Territory. One was caught with pentazocine injections, while the other was nabbed with skunk packaged for delivery.
Meanwhile, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns nationwide, engaging schools, worship centres, and communities. Advocacy visits were also paid to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and traditional rulers in Nasarawa.
Commending officers across Lagos, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Taraba, Delta, Adamawa, FCT, Ondo, Ekiti, and Edo for their operations, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), urged continued vigilance and a balanced approach to drug control.
