FG ADVANCES ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN JIGAWA STATE

The Federal Government has recorded significant progress on key road infrastructure projects in Jigawa State, as a National Media Tour of ongoing works in the North-West Zone concluded with the commissioning of Emergency and Special Intervention projects across the state.

During the tour, the Federal Controller of Works in Jigawa State, Engr. Yusuf Mahmoud, briefed journalists in Gumel on the level of work at the Reconstruction of the Kwanar Danjaโ€“Tsalleโ€“Hadejia Road, a 117-kilometre Phase One project being handled by Gerawa Global Engineering Nigeria Plc.

He explained that the project, awarded in February 2022, involves the reconstruction of the existing carriageway, construction of lined drains, and installation of culverts to improve drainage, enhance road durability, and protect surrounding communities from flooding.

Engr. Mahmoud noted that although the project experienced delays due to funding challenges, the issues have since been resolved, allowing the contractor to return to site with renewed momentum.

He disclosed that the road has now attained about 75 per cent completion, with nearly 79 kilometres already reconstructed, while construction is ongoing simultaneously from the Gumel and Hadejia ends to fast-track delivery.

The Project Manager, Engr. Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed that additional equipment, asphalt plants, and personnel have been deployed to accelerate work on the remaining sections, assuring that the project would be completed ahead of the revised timeline.

The media team also inspected the Kunyaโ€“Kanyaโ€“Baburaโ€“Babban Mutum Road, a 47-kilometre rehabilitation project being executed by CRCC Construction Company Nigeria Limited.

The Federal Controller of Works disclosed that the project has reached about 82 per cent completion, with most sections already rehabilitated, noting that the road will boost cross-border trade with the Niger Republic and improve the movement of agricultural produce.

Stakeholders and road users along the corridors, including representatives of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, saying travel time, transportation costs, and vehicle maintenance expenses have significantly reduced.

In addition, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Jigawa State Council, commissioned the Special Repairs of the Kano State Borderโ€“Dutseโ€“Kiyawaโ€“Bauchi State Border Road, an Emergency Intervention Project approved under the Federal Governmentโ€™s 260 Emergency Road Projects initiative.

At the conclusion of the tour, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North-West Zone, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, described the projects as critical to Jigawa Stateโ€™s agrarian economy and in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirming the administrationโ€™s commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure nationwide.
