PARTY POLITICS:  SPEAKER ABBAS CHAIRS PRESIDENTIAL PANEL ON BAUCHI APC RECONCILIATION.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to head a reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State.

The panel is tasked with resolving lingering disputes within the party ahead of its congresses.

Other members include Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara; Presidential Aides, Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel and Alhaji Ibrahim Masari; as well as Usman Gotomo. The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Professor Jake Dan-Azumi, will serve as secretary.

The committee held its inaugural meeting in Abuja late July, where strategies were discussed to address the crisis, which dates back to the 2015 party primaries.

A follow-up meeting with major stakeholders from Bauchi APC was convened on July 31 at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, chaired by Governor Buni in the absence of Speaker Abbas.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the President in the coming weeks for further action.
