EX-GOVERNOR SUSWAM QUITS PDP, JOINS APC

Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Suswam’s defection was confirmed in a resignation letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area.

In the letter, the former governor said the PDP, once a symbol of cohesion and internal democracy, has become riddled with persistent and unresolved internal crises spanning leadership, structure, discipline, and ideology.

Suswam described the party as being “trapped in crisis mode,” adding that repeated reconciliation efforts had failed to restore stability.

While announcing his exit, he expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him platforms to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, two-term governor of Benue State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said his decision to leave was driven by his desire to contribute meaningfully to nation-building within a stable and functional political framework.

Suswam has now joined Governor Hyacinth Alia in the APC, a move seen as a major political development in Benue State as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

It is  to note that Suswam was elected a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ukum/Logo/Katsina-Ala Federal Constituency from 1999 to 2007. He later served as a two-term governor of Benue State and subsequently as a senator, all on the platform of the PDP.
