The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, has assured the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, of enhanced collaboration and support in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
A senior AFRICOM delegation, led by Philip Esch, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Liaison to AFRICOM, met with the Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), and commended the agency’s leadership, professionalism, and commitment to international cooperation.
The delegation described the NDLEA–U.S. partnership as critical to regional and global security, pledging continued assistance through training, equipment support, and new projects, while also praising NDLEA’s effective use and maintenance of previously supplied assets.
In his response, Marwa thanked AFRICOM for its sustained support, noting that the collaboration has strengthened Nigeria’s fight against drugs and terrorism. He called for additional assistance in critical areas including airport scanning equipment, forensic tools, drug detection technology, and sniffer dogs to further boost NDLEA’s operational capacity.
