NMDPRA DISMISSES JET FUEL SCARCITY CLAIMS, CONFIRMS 74-DAY SUPPLY

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has dismissed reports of aviation fuel scarcity and price spikes, assuring Nigerians of adequate supply nationwide.

In a statement,  Director, Public Affairs Department Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, George Ene-Ita , the Authority said the country currently has a combined 74-day sufficiency of aviation fuel, comprising 12 days of inland stock and 62 days from refinery reserves.

The NMDPRA also refuted claims that the product is selling for as high as N3,300 per litre, describing such reports as inaccurate and not reflective of current market realities.

It explained that aviation fuel, like other petroleum products, is fully deregulated, with prices determined by prevailing market forces.

According to the Authority, the ex-gantry price at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemical Company is currently N1,879 per litre, slightly below the international benchmark of N1,900 per litre in Lagos as of April 16, 2026.

A nationwide price survey conducted on April 17 shows that retail prices range between N1,960 and N2,800 per litre.

The NMDPRA said it will continue to monitor supply and pricing closely to prevent disruptions and curb profiteering across the sector.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring energy security, while commending stakeholders in the aviation fuel supply chain for sustaining availability and distribution of the product.
