NAF LOGISTICS CONFERENCE: CAS RE-AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ENSURING ROBUST SUPPORT TO SUSTAIN CRITICAL CAPABILITIES.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reiterated robust logistics support and sustainment remain a top priority in ensuring the operational readiness of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
The Chief of the Air staff made this known at the opening ceremony of a  2-day Conference, themed “Enhancing NAF Operations for Robust National Security Through Proactive Logistics Support and Strong Maintenance Culture”,
draws direction from the overall policy thrust of the CAS to inject fresh ideas into the NAF logistics architecture, for a more effective response to contemporary challenges in Air Force logistics management.
As well as to ensure that the Conference lives up to its billing.
In his remarks, the Chief of the Air staff , who was the Guest of Honour at the event, emphasised the critical role of logistics in sustaining airpower and ensuring national security. He reiterated the importance of aligning logistics operations with operational effectiveness, as captured in his Command Philosophy, one of the Key Enablers of which prioritises proactive logistics support and a strong maintenance culture. “Our logistics support and sustainment capabilities must remain robust, efficient, responsive and forward-looking in order to enhance the overall readiness of the Nigerian Air Force.” The CAS noted.
Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted recent advancements in the NAF’s fleet, including the induction of modern platforms such as the A-29 Super Tucano, as well as the Agusta 109 Trekker and T-129 ATAK helicopters, with additional high-tech platforms like the M-346 jets and AH-1Z helicopters expected by 2026.
“To maintain these sophisticated assets, according to him, the NAF is investing in data-driven supply chain systems that guarantee timely availability of critical spares, consumables, and equipment.
The welfare of personnel was also a central focus, as the CAS stated, “we must not lose sight of the needs of the Nigerian Air Force personnel who continually toil to keep these aircraft flying. Our airmen and airwomen have critical requirements such as basing and maintenance facilities, equipment, accommodation, recreational centres and even kitting to enhance their efficiency.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Logistics (CLOG), Air Vice Marshal Patrick Phillips, expressed the appreciation of the Logistics Branch to the CAS for his foresight, dynamic leadership style and overall support towards the actualisation of the missions of the Branch. Significantly, the CLOG articulated the activities and initiatives of the Logistics Branch over the past 17 months, structured in accordance with the Key Enablers of the CAS Command Philosophy to transform the NAF into an agile and resilient force that effectively meets the airpower demands of national security in all operational environments. The CLOG assured the CAS that, drawing from the vast knowledge and experience of the participants, the Logistics Conference 2024 would undoubtedly serve its intended purpose of repositioning NAF logistics to provide timely and efficient support for sustainable mission accomplishment.
