Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a clinic in London, United Kingdom.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the late President as a resolute leader whose life was marked by unwavering dedication to the unity and development of Nigeria.
Reflecting on Buhari’s years of service, Governor Alia acknowledged his pivotal roles as both military Head of State between 1984 and 1985, and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. He noted that Buhari’s leadership left “indelible marks on the nation’s history” and was defined by courage, discipline, and a strong sense of patriotism.
The governor extended his condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, saying the country has lost a true statesman.
He offered prayers for God to comfort the bereaved family and the nation at large, and to grant the former President eternal rest.
