DANGOTE CEMENT TRANSPORT OBAJANA CELEBRATES 2025 SUSTAINABILITY WEEK WITH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY AWARDS

At Obajana in Kogi State, Dangote Cement Transport has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and community development as it marked its 2025 Sustainability Week with lectures, school competitions, and an award ceremony celebrating excellence and volunteerism.

The event, held at the Dangote Cement Transport facility in Obajana, brought together company officials, government representatives, schoolchildren, and community leaders.

In his opening remarks, the Divisional Director of Transport, Obajana, Colonel Hemant Rana (Rtd.), represented by Mr. Charles Theophilus, commended the organizers for promoting sustainability through inclusive community engagement.

He noted that sustainable development is not just a corporate responsibility, but a shared vision between Dangote Cement and its host communities.

Guest speakers from the Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry also delivered lectures on how sustainable business practices can foster profitability, resilience, and long-term community impact.

A major highlight of the celebration was the Inter-Schools Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, featuring ten schools drawn from Dangote’s four host communities.

Excellent Future Leaders International School emerged overall winner of the Quiz Competition, while Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, clinched the top prize in the Spelling Bee.

The trophies were presented by the Head of Operations, Mr. Abdullahi Aliyu, on behalf of the Divisional Director of Transport, in recognition of the students’ brilliance and teamwork.

“At Dangote Cement Transport, we are committed to bringing smiles to our host communities in diverse ways — through education, empowerment, and partnerships that create real impact.”

The event also recognized staff for outstanding volunteerism and service within the Transport Division.

Emmanuel Yashim and Oluwasola John received awards as Outstanding Male and Female Volunteers of the Year, while Charles Theophilus was honored with a Meritorious Service Award for exemplary leadership as Chairman of the Planning Committee.

In his closing remarks, the Acting Sustainability Lead, Mr. Eseyin Temitope James, appreciated the Dangote Group management for its continuous support for sustainability initiatives.

He said the Sustainability Week reflects Dangote Cement’s broader mission — to empower people, protect the environment, and promote shared prosperity across its host communities.

With renewed enthusiasm from staff, students, and community representatives, Dangote Cement Transport Obajana continues to lead by example in advancing sustainability and inclusive growth.
